This documentary explores the origins of the Human Beatbox and shows how it has become what it is today – a full musical instrument.

The art of beatboxing has been around for more than 30 years. But it was not until the turn of the century that it has become a global phenomenon, which is organized and celebrated in Beatbox Conventions and Beatbox Competitions in an increasing number of countries every year.

As beatboxing has not really been explored thoroughly, this documentary aims at providing a full picture of this incredible art form starting with its genesis within Hip Hop culture and continuing with its further developments and its use in various musical fields in several countries throughout the world.
The production of this film was quite costly as it was essential to get footage of artists from relevant locations all over the world. The documentary was filmed in New York, California, Spain, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Canada, Austria and Germany.

For the true beatbox devotees the film will give answers to the burning questions about …

  • the cultural origin of beatboxing
  • the first beatboxer who invented the art form
  • the first print of the term “The Human Beatbox”
  • the first Video recording of a beatboxer
  • the first Audio recording on a record
Schneyder has composed a fascinating and authoritative film on a cultural form that has developed beyond markers of race and class and cross pollinated with other cultural fields such as film and classical music.
